About Soekarno Hatta International Airport
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (IATA: CGK) is the main airport of Jakarta and the busiest in Indonesia. It lies in Tangerang, Banten, about 20 km northwest of central Jakarta, and is named after the country's first president, Sukarno, and first vice president, Mohammad Hatta. Domestic flights began on 1 May 1985.
The original terminals were designed by the French architect Paul Andreu around tropical gardens, with boarding pavilions modelled on Javanese pendopo and joglo roofs; the design won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1995. Terminal 3 opened in 2011 and its large expansion in 2016. The airport handled about 55 million passengers in 2025 and is operated by the state-owned InJourney Airports.
The Soekarno Hatta International Airport Logo: Design and Meaning
The airport's current logo is a clean, dark grey wordmark: "Soekarno-Hatta" on the first line and "International Airport" below, in a modern sans-serif, with the small line "by InJourney Airports" underneath. Instead of a pictorial symbol it relies on the name itself, which matches the plain wayfinding style used inside the terminals.
The added "by InJourney Airports" credit ties the airport into the brand of its operator, the state airport group that now runs Indonesia's major airports. Because the logo is a single neutral colour, it works on both light and dark backgrounds, on signs, tickets and digital screens.
