About Avengers
The Avengers are a team of superheroes in Marvel Comics. They first appeared in The Avengers #1, cover-dated September 1963, created by writer and editor Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. The original line-up was Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp and the Hulk.
The team reached a much wider audience with the Marvel Cinematic Universe film The Avengers, released in 2012.
The Avengers Logo: Design and Meaning
The logo on this page is a black-and-white outlined wordmark in tall, angular italic capitals. The first letter is an oversized "A" that rises above the rest of the word, with the small word "THE" tucked into the left side of the "A", so the title reads as a single block that leans forward.
The big "A" is easy to separate from the other letters, so it also works as a stand-alone emblem for the team. We describe only the design shown here; Wikipedia's article does not cover the logo's history, so we make no claim about who drew it or when.
