About Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team in the NBA, founded in 1995 as an expansion team. The name was chosen through a nationwide contest, narrowed from more than 2,000 entries to ten finalists, and announced in 1994; Wikipedia says it was influenced by the popularity of the 1993 film Jurassic Park, which featured velociraptors.

The team played its first four seasons at SkyDome (now Rogers Centre) before moving in 1999 to what is now Scotiabank Arena, which it shares with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2019 the Raptors won their first Eastern Conference title, reached their first NBA Finals and won their first NBA championship.
