About Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey, headquartered in Istanbul. It was established on 20 May 1933 as Turkish State Airlines (Devlet Hava Yolları), first as a department of the Ministry of National Defense, and was renamed the General Directorate of State Airlines in 1935. It joined the Star Alliance on 1 April 2008.

Its main hub and base is Istanbul Airport. Wikipedia gives different network figures in different places, for example 340 destinations in 129 countries as of 2024 and a higher count in the lead as of September 2026, so we do not quote a single number here.

The Turkish Airlines Logo: Design and Meaning

The Turkish Airlines logo has a red circle holding a white stylised shape that reads as a bird or a sail in flight, with a swept white line below it. Beside it, "TURKISH AIRLINES" is set in black capitals on two lines in a clean sans-serif.

Wikipedia identifies the current logo file as the 2019 compact version. We did not find a source for what the symbol stands for, so any reading of it as a bird, a wing or a sail is only how it looks to us.
