About Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment is an American video game developer and publisher based in Irvine, California. It was founded in February 1991 as Silicon & Synapse by the UCLA graduates Michael Morhaime, Allen Adham and Frank Pearce, became Chaos Studios in 1993, and took the name Blizzard Entertainment in May 1994, after Davidson & Associates, which had acquired it that year, rejected the interim name Ogre Studios.

Its main franchises are Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft and Overwatch, with Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm as spin-offs. Ownership passed from Davidson & Associates to Vivendi Games (1998), to Activision Blizzard in 2008, and to Microsoft when its acquisition of Activision Blizzard closed on 13 October 2023.

The Blizzard Entertainment Logo: Design and Meaning

The Blizzard logo is the name in jagged, chiselled capital letters, with edges that look like cracked ice or rough stone, in bright cyan blue. Below it, the word "ENTERTAINMENT" is set in small, widely spaced black capitals.

According to Wikipedia, the original Blizzard logo was created by Stu Rose, and the current logo has been in use since 2015. The rough lettering suits the fantasy and sci-fi worlds of its games, and the cyan colour echoes the "blizzard" in the name.
