About Indosiar

Indosiar is a national free-to-air television station in Indonesia. PT Indosiar Visual Mandiri was founded on 19 July 1991, began test broadcasts on 18 December 1994 and officially went on air on 11 January 1995. It was founded by the Salim Group; in 2011 control passed to the Emtek Group, and since 2013 it has belonged to Surya Citra Media, the same company that runs SCTV.

In its early years Indosiar was known for imported Asian dramas, wayang shows and its own soap operas. Today it is closely associated with dangdut, through talent shows such as D'Academy and Liga Dangdut Indonesia, and it also carries football, including Liga 1 matches.

The Indosiar Logo: Design and Meaning

Indosiar's identity has always revolved around a round emblem made of horizontal bands. The first logo, used from 1994, was adapted under licence from the logo of Hong Kong broadcaster TVB, with the colours reversed and the INDOSIAR name added. For years the station's on-air identity also featured a flying fish mascot.

In December 2014 the logo was redrawn into the version shown here: a circle of colour bands running from magenta and red at the top through green to blue at the bottom, with the name INDOSIAR set across the middle. The lettering was changed from Avant Garde Bold to Nexa Bold and the shape was made slightly more squared-off, giving the brand a cleaner, more modern look on screens and phones.
