About TVRI
TVRI (Televisi Republik Indonesia) is Indonesia's public television broadcaster and the country's oldest TV station. Its first broadcast went out on 24 August 1962 with the opening ceremony of the IV Asian Games at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Jakarta.
Since 24 August 2006 TVRI has been a Lembaga Penyiaran Publik (public broadcasting institution) under the 2002 Broadcasting Law, alongside the radio network RRI: an independent, non-commercial body set up by the state rather than a department of any ministry. Its headquarters are on Jalan Gerbang Pemuda in Gelora, Tanah Abang (Central Jakarta), and it runs a national channel, regional stations across the provinces, TVRI World and TVRI Sport.
The TVRI Logo: Design and Meaning
The current TVRI logo was unveiled on 29 March 2019 at a concert in the TVRI auditorium. It sets the letters "TV" next to a dark blue circle that carries a bold white "RI", so the country's initials sit at the visual centre. TVRI calls the circle a "connecting circle of the world", tied to the line "one broadcast, one voice, one Indonesia for the world". The design was developed by the branding agency DM ID rather than through a public contest.
The corporate colour is a solid "trusted blue", which TVRI links to Indonesia's sea and sky; on screen the logo is shown in white. It is the eighth logo in the broadcaster's history. The one it replaced (2007–2019) added a hook-like stroke that TVRI explained as a stylised "P" for Publik, Perubahan, Perintis, Pemersatu and Pilihan. The earlier designs, from the first square logo of 1962 onwards, are shown in the logo history on this page.
