About UBS

UBS is a Swiss global bank and wealth manager with headquarters in Zurich and Basel. UBS Group was created on 29 June 1998 through the merger of Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Bank Corporation, a deal announced on 8 December 1997. In 2023, UBS took over its rival Credit Suisse in an emergency rescue arranged by the Swiss government and the Swiss central bank.

The UBS Logo: Design and Meaning

The UBS logo combines a black symbol of three crossed keys with the letters "UBS" in red serif capitals. The three keys stand for confidence, security and discretion, according to the company.

The keys are older than UBS itself. Swiss Bank Corporation adopted the three-keys emblem in 1937, designed by Warja Honegger-Lavater, and it was carried into the merged bank. Union Bank of Switzerland had used a plain acronym logo ("UBS" in English and French, "SBG" in German) in 1966, so the current logo effectively joins one bank's symbol with the other's initials.
