About Vimeo

Vimeo is a video hosting and sharing platform based in New York City. It was founded on 14 November 2004 and launched publicly on 15 December 2004 by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein, as a side project within Connected Ventures, the company behind CollegeHumor. Ricky Van Veen and Josh Abramson are also listed as founders.

IAC bought a 51% controlling stake in Connected Ventures in 2006 and owned Vimeo until May 2021, when it was spun out as a separate public company trading on Nasdaq as VMEO. In November 2025 the Milan-based Bending Spoons completed an all-cash acquisition worth about $1.38 billion and took Vimeo private; the company continues to operate under the Vimeo brand.

The Vimeo Logo: Design and Meaning

The Vimeo logo is a lower-case script wordmark in light blue. The letters are joined and slanted like handwriting, with a rounded dot over the "i" and a large, open "o" at the end, giving the word a friendly, personal feel.

The name fits that tone: Lodwick built it from "video" and "me", and it also happens to be an anagram of "movie". The brush-like lettering and single light-blue colour make the logo easy to recognise on a video player, where it appears over other people's footage.
